Vice Rector III’s Visit to UM: Expanding Research, Academic, and Community Engagement
International Office – Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq (UIN KHAS) Jember and Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) on December 9, 2024, which is set to remain in effect for the next five years, the Vice Rector III of UIN KHAS Jember, Dr. Khoirul Faizin, M.Ag., led a collaborative visit to UM on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Accompanying him were As’ari, M.Pd.I., Head of the Center for Cooperation Services and International Office, and staff member Mochammad Arif Maschun Sofwan, Lc., MA.
The delegation from UIN KHAS Jember was warmly received by UM’s Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Munjin Nasih, S.Pd., M.Ag., at Graha Rektorat, 8th Floor. The meeting focused on strengthening research collaboration, student and faculty exchange programs, and community engagement initiatives. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Munjin Nasih emphasized UM’s commitment to fostering equal and strategic partnerships with other higher education institutions. He underscored the university’s vision of advancing national education through efficient and sustainable research collaboration.
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Khoirul Faizin expressed interest in studying UM’s academic and managerial systems to explore potential adaptations at UIN KHAS Jember. He further highlighted the importance of formalizing the collaboration through a Partnership Agreement (PKS) to ensure immediate implementation.

The student and faculty exchange program, joint research projects, and community service initiatives emerged as key priorities. Additionally, discussions were held on flexible models for Community Service Programs (KKN), considering UIN KHAS Jember’s biannual KKN schedule.
Adding to the conversation, Dr. Yuni Rahmawati, S.T., M.T., Director of Planning, Data, Information, Rankings, and Partnerships at UM, emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial academic collaboration. She proposed organizing a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to explore thematic KKN models that could serve as a reference for UIN KHAS Jember. She also highlighted joint research publications as a key area for expansion.
As’ari, M.Pd.I. underscored UM’s strategic significance as one of the largest universities in Indonesia and a valuable partner for UIN KHAS Jember. He expressed optimism that this partnership would yield mutually advantageous collaborations, ultimately contributing to both institutions’ growth and benefiting the broader academic community.
As a concrete step forward, UM and UIN KHAS Jember will soon develop a formal Partnership Agreement (PKS). This agreement will involve relevant academic units and departments from both institutions to align technical aspects. The collaboration will encompass student and faculty exchanges, joint research development, and thematic KKN programs, paving the way for a more dynamic and impactful academic partnership.
